A New Set of Faces for Children of the Kingdom

Perhaps my favorite illustration in the world is the one pictured below from The Jesus Storybook Bible.  

This picture came alive to me through the eyes of my daughter when she was only five years old.  On our last day of an incredible trip to Kenya with Share International in 2008, we were on a mountain known as “Prayer Mountain” overlooking Lodwar and the surrounding villages.  She was looking through The Jesus Storybook Bible that she had heard me read countless times when she zeroed in on this picture.  She told me that she felt she was the little girl who was running toward God the Father in the picture.  Not only was this a defining moment in her own faith, but it became a specific marker for the direction I want my focus to be: to turn toward God rather than to be overwhelmed by anything that might close my heart to Him.

This picture has become embedded in my heart reminding me that I have another path I can choose.  Rather than responding out of my own pain or failure, I am learning to pray and ask God to bend my heart to help me turn toward God and toward others.  This picture captures the way I want to live, no matter what the circumstances are. 
 
As we moved to establish Children of the Kingdom as an independent 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, we began considering a new logo.  Knowing how powerful this picture has been to our family’s faith journey, you can imagine that it was a bit of a dream come true to actually get in touch with Jago Silver, the illustrator of The Jesus Storybook Bible this past fall.  We asked him if he would be willing to work with us to create a new logo for Children of the Kingdom, and we were delighted that he agreed. It has been an incredible process to work with such a talented artist to capture the heart of what we do.  We are pleased to be able to share his work with you here.

He wrote to us as he finished up the design: “I’ve really enjoyed working with you on this, and I think that what you’re doing is amazing so thanks for asking me to do this.”
 
A bit more about the man behind the captivating images: 
Jago is a children’s book illustrator and has produced work for over 50 books and a few magazines, as well as a TV show or two. He’s probably best known for his collaboration with New York Times Bestselling author Sally Lloyd-Jones. Their books have been translated into over 30 languages, sold more than 2.6 million copies and won a tidy stack of awards. He creates his work digitally from his home in North Cornwall, UK using a combination of a Mac Pro, a Wacom Cintiq and an iPad Pro.
